Cement Australia win the company's engineering excellence award of the new lining design

Palmer Technologies has been delivering a professional engineering service to industry throughout Australia and New Zealand for 15 years. Dr Greg Palmer has been involved with engineering of refractory concrete since the mid 1980's and his work has been driven by an industry need to significantly improve the engineering know-how and poor reliability of refractory structures.
Drawing on its industrial experience of concrete refractory failure, Palmer Technologies' researched and developed patented technology to non-destructively assess refractory concrete structures (P-Response®) and an advanced lining design (P-Lining®) system for refractory.
P-Lining® is an integrated design, fabrication and installation system for multi-layer lining of process equipment, which delivers substantially longer operating life for equipment in harsh service environments. It is the first engineered solution to repetitive refractory failure and represents a step change for improved industrial process equipment reliability and integrity. The P-Lining® technology is patented, protecting intellectual property in the major national markets.
In 2007, the Cement Australia plant installed a proprietary refractory lining design developed by Palmer Technologies (Australia) to replace a vessel roof. The new design has now been in service for more than three consecutive years and is in its fourth annual cycle. The original roof was "brick on rail" with a refractory life of 6-9 months. In the 1980's the design was changed to monolithic and a small improvement in life to 12 months was achieved. The new design is performing beyond expectations and it is expected to have a life between 4-6 years based on current trends.
The quality of installed refractory and the reliability of anchors in refractory lined process vessels are the key to on-stream reliability, cost efficiency and safety.
Palmer Technologies now consults to a range of industries in Australia and New Zealand.
